What is UX Design and why does it matter in 2020

Making your website stand out among a sea of competitors can be difficult, even if you have one of the most incredible digital marketing companies, fantastic content, tons of search engine optimization work, and an endless PPC budget. That can be a great way to get your website in front of potential customers and clients, but what about once your audience arrives at your website? That’s where great UX design comes into play.

What is UX Design?

Design teams use great UX Design to create a product, in our case, websites, that offer users a meaningful experience that makes them want to stay on a website longer. To do this, we have to combine everything from great written content to incredible visual elements and, most importantly, user-friendly web design that facilitates the user’s experience as they arrive on the website and proceed to navigate their way through products and services until they ultimately convert with a purchase or by making some form of contact whether that be filling out a contact form or by requesting a quote.

This requires us to focus on the what, why, and how when we build a website. It can’t just look good; it has to feel good and make sense to users.

UX Design Principles

When our WordPress developers design a website with UX in mind, we consider a few things.

User Experience

Does the website make sense? Is it easy to navigate? This will impact analytic metrics like bounce and exit rates. If the user experience is bad, they will likely exit the website and continue searching for a website that meets the user’s expectations for what they were looking for on a website.

Is It Easy To Read?

The reality of websites is that much of their content will be scanned, not read. This means that part of creating a website with a great user experience should be making it easy to scan for important information through eye-catching and accurate headings. Once a user finds something that catches their eye, they will read for more information. This means great content writing and informational hierarchies must be spot on.

Keep It Clear and Simple

Users who visit a website do so with a purpose: to find an answer or to find a product/service that they need. If they cannot immediately find that information on your website, they will go back to Google and try again with the next result.

To avoid this, it is important to ensure that a website prominently displays the appropriate information clearly. This could be by having a services page that clearly outlines each of your services or by prominently displaying the Call To Action buttons.
